Privacy Policy

This policy explains how NovelMonkey AI Lab ("we", "us") handles information when you use the Nook desktop and mobile apps and the website at getnookai.com. We collect what we need to run Nook, and we do not sell your personal information.

1. What we collect

• Account information. When you sign in with Google, we receive your Google account ID, email address and display name. When you set up Nook you also give the name you want to be called and your date of birth, which we use to confirm you are 21 or older.
• What you say to your companion. The messages you send are processed on our servers to generate a reply. On the desktop app, speech you dictate is turned into text on your own computer. During a video call, your voice is streamed to our servers and to a speech-recognition provider so it can be transcribed in real time; we do not keep call audio.
• Moment cues you allow. If you turn them on in the desktop app, short descriptions of what is happening on your computer (for example the song that is playing or the app in front) are sent with a message so your companion can react to the moment.
• Memory and relationship. To keep your companion consistent across devices, we store on our servers what she remembers about you and your relationship: facts you shared, summaries of time spent together, goals, the names you chose, and closeness level.
• Diamonds and purchases. Your diamond balance, how diamonds were spent, and purchase records (amount, currency, date and Stripe's payment ID).
• Notifications. If you allow notifications on your phone, we store the device's push token so your companion can reach you while the app is closed.
• Technical information. App version, device type, error reports and request logs, used to keep Nook running and secure.

We never receive or store your full card number. Card details are entered on Stripe's checkout page and handled by Stripe under its own privacy policy.

2. How we use information

• To generate replies (text, voice and video), hold video calls, and deliver them to you.
• To remember you, so your companion knows who you are on every device.
• To keep your account, diamond balance and purchases accurate, and to handle refunds and support requests.
• To enforce our Content & Safety Policy, including automated screening of requests and replies.
• To fix problems, prevent fraud and abuse, and improve Nook.
• To meet legal, tax and accounting obligations.

3. Who we share it with

• AI service providers that generate text, speech and video, and transcribe speech, on our behalf. They receive the content needed for each request and may not use it for their own purposes beyond what their service terms allow.
• Stripe, to take payments, issue refunds and prevent fraud.
• Infrastructure providers that run Nook for us, including Google Firebase for sign-in and push notifications, Apple for notifications on iPhone, Agora for real-time video calls, and our hosting and storage providers.
• Authorities, when required by law or to protect people from harm. We report suspected child sexual abuse material to the relevant authorities.

We do not sell or rent personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.

4. How long we keep it

• Message text: up to 30 days.
• Conversation and call records (time, character, cost, status): up to 180 days.
• Memory and relationship data: until you delete it or your account.
• Purchase and diamond records: as long as required for financial and tax records, up to 10 years.
• Account information: until you delete your account.

5. Your choices and rights

You can ask us to access, correct, export or delete your personal information, or to delete your account, as described on Delete your data. We respond within 30 days. Records we must keep by law (such as purchase records) are retained only for that purpose. You can turn off moment cues and notifications at any time in the app or your device settings.

California residents have the right to know, delete and correct personal information, to opt out of its sale or sharing (we do neither), and not to be discriminated against for using these rights. Residents of other US states and other countries may have similar rights; contact us to use them.

6. Adults only

Nook is not for anyone under 21. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 21, and we delete accounts we learn belong to someone under 21.

7. Security

We use encryption in transit, access controls and limited retention to protect your information. No system is perfectly secure, so please contact us right away if you believe your account has been compromised.

8. This website

This website does not use advertising or tracking cookies. It stores two settings in your browser: that you confirmed you are 21 or older, and whether her voice is on.

9. International users

We are based in the United States, and information is processed in the United States and other countries where our providers operate.

10. Changes

We will post updates here with a new effective date and notify you of material changes by email or in the app.
